Our story

Hartley & Co was started by Ruth Hartley in 2009, after fifteen years at a larger firm in Northampton where the clients she liked best were the plumbers, joiners and shopkeepers who just wanted their tax done properly and explained once.

David Okafor joined in 2015. Between us we look after around 140 businesses, most of them sole traders and small limited companies within twenty miles of Kettering. Ruth is a chartered certified accountant and David is AAT-qualified.

We are deliberately small. It means you talk to the person who actually does your accounts, and it means we can keep fees sensible. We do not sell software, we do not upsell, and we will not lecture you about growing your business. We make sure the numbers are right, the returns go in on time, and you pay the tax you owe and not a penny more.
