About Bright Start Tutoring

Our story

I taught maths and English in Oxfordshire secondary schools for nineteen years, the last six as a head of year. I loved the classroom, but with thirty children in front of you there is never enough time for the one who has quietly stopped putting their hand up. Bright Start Tutoring is my answer to that.

Since 2021 I have tutored from the study at home, one child at a time. Most of the children I see are somewhere between Year 4 and GCSE. Some are behind and worried about it, some are doing fine and want to feel more confident, and a few are preparing for the 11-plus or their exams. All of them get the same thing: a calm hour, a plan that makes sense to them, and someone who notices when the penny drops.

It's just me. There is no agency and no rota of different tutors, so your child sees the same face every week and I know exactly where we left off. I hold a PGCE, I am fully DBS checked, and I am happy for a parent to sit in on the first session.
